RUTZ PARCEL – Given in 1991 by Mrs. Marie Rutz. 4.48 acres, separated from the Miser parcel by a 200 ft. power right of way.
This land is very wet, with portions of swamp. It lies south of the old Colt Highway, and rises to the back yards along South Road. Vegetation includes extensive thickets and vines, skunk cabbage, willows and swamp maples. There is evidence of deer and raccoon; foxes and wild turkeys have been seen by FLT steward Cheryl Rutz.
A sluggish stream runs west-to-east along the lowest area. The wet areas have been contaminated by oil from the adjacent highway garage. Adjacent lands have been pastures and orchards in past years, but the Rutz parcel has been mostly too wet for these uses. The Rutz home at 187 South Road was built in 1958 as part of a subdivision developed by Charles Taylor.
